Mel Gibson's Ex-Girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva , Files for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy

Published February 24, 2014 by Sasser Law Firm

Oksana Grigorieva, best known as the ex-girlfriend of Mel Gibson and the mother of his youngest daughter, filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection in California on January 6, 2014. On her bankruptcy petition, the Russian singer claimed to have only $10 in cash and to be over $400,000 in debt. The 43-year old, who claimed Mel Gibson physically assaulted her during their relationship, agreed to joint custody of their daughter and receives $20,000 a month in child support from Gibson. She also receives $2,500 a month in child support from former James Bond actor Timothy Dalton, with whom she has a son.

Aside from $150,000 in credit card debt, most of Grigorieva’s debts stem from the $250,000 in legal bills she amassed during her contentious court battle with Mel Gibson. Gibson initially offered Grigorieva a settlement of $15,000,000, which she rejected. The final agreement resulted in Gibson paying $750,000 installments over the course of five years and also allowed Grigorieva to reside in a home he owns until their daughter turns 18. Grigorieva forfeited the right to the remaining portion of the settlement when she violated the terms of their confidentiality agreement during an interview with Howard Stern.
