Scam Targets Bankruptcy Filers

Yesterday, the U.S. Courts issued a press release describing a scam where individuals receive a phone call from someone posing as their bankruptcy attorney, demanding payment to satisfy a debt. What makes these calls particularly convincing is that the caller-id on the client’s phone actually displays the name of their attorney. Typically, these calls are made outside of normal business-hours, making it difficult for the intended victim to verify the legitimacy of the call with their actual attorney. So far, this scam has only been reported in Vermont and Virginia. If you receive a call like this, please report it to our office immediately.
